Act Three: Swipe Right

Act Three’s joyous collaboration with Cricket Green School was proof that young people value creativity above screen time

When Coco Gauff – the youngest ever qualifier – made it into the fourth round of Wimbledon, it may have been an anomaly: not many teenagers can say they dispatched Venus Williams on No1 Court.

But Coco’s drive, determination and maturity are not unusual. Today’s teenagers are capable of amazing things. They are often dismissed as a generation of tech-addicted, screen junkies, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

In a unique collaboration with their contemporaries at Cricket Green School, Act Three produced a unique piece of theatre that imagined a screen-dominated world controlled by a ruthless corporate giant.

Ruled by technology – and corpoaret greed: Swipe Right

But our young cast saw hope in even this desperate situation: a young singer finds her voice and composes an original song that has the power to melt the hearts of even the most loyal corporate minions.

Najah finds her creativity and changes the world: Swipe Right

The positivity, and power of creativity, that Swipe Right celebrates, reflects the awareness young people have of the perils of technology, as well as its benefits.

Beware the bots: Swipe Right

The show was a true collaboration between two local groups, sharing their hopes, fears and experiences to produce a dramatic, dynamic and compelling story with an original song that reaches inside each audience member and touches their soul.

A song for the soul: Swipe Right

Absolute proof that Coco Gauff wasn’t the only inspirational teenager in SW19 this fortnight.

Huge thanks from all the cast and crew, parents and friends, and WCTT trustees, are due to The Ironmongers Company – without their generous funding, Swipe Right would not have happened: thank you so much for your support.
