Embrace change and unlock your talent

Find out how joining your local youth theatre could help you deal with the challenges ahead.

Starting secondary school is always a challenge – this year, after a prolonged period of lockdown, joining a new school (or even going back to your old one) could be particularly stressful for some young people.

Since the schools closed in March, WCTT has been committed to providing its professional performance workshops online, staying creative and keeping its members connected.

We don’t just set assignments or challenges for our members: we engage in moderated Zoom sessions for two hours each week, complete with breakaway rooms for small group work.

Act One (school years 7-8)…go head over heels

We’ve had some amazing and life-affirming chats about life in lockdown…and our young actors are busy working on creative projects that have given them focus and certainty in an uncertain world.

Now more than ever, we’ve appreciated how WCTT Young Actors Company can provide young people in and around our borough with support, friendship and creative stimulation – a foundation for positive change in their lives and the wider community.

Join us in September!

The Young Actors Company is the perfect place to gain actor training with professionals as well as making new friends and meeting/working with people in the creative industries.

We’re really excited to be hosting two online audition workshops for prospective new members.

These informal sessions on July 19 and August 23 are designed to give you a taste of WCTT’s youth theatre, to Zoom-meet other young performers and to find out if joining a youth theatre might be the right move for you.

We’re really keen to hear from young people in and around Merton – and particularly from students going into year 7: we know from the experiences of our current and past members that joining WCTT can really help when you’re making the transition from primary to secondary.

We’re all about building confidence, providing a safe space to be yourself and making new connections in a friendly and inclusive group.

Act Two (school years 9-10) create a lockdown chat show…it’s the A-list, with a twist

Our membership fees are set at a minimum – the fee is purely to cover the cost of paying our professional team of directors, hiring rehearsal space (as soon as it is safe to do so) and putting on regular productions for friends, family and audiences across the borough and beyond.

And we also take part in community engagement projects to connect our members with the people, organisations and issues that really make a difference.

We would love to hear from you if you are in years 7-13 and live in or near Merton borough.

Our summer audition workshops are completely free of charge and you can download an application form here.

Whatever happens in the future, we will be flexible and responsive to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and offer safe opportunities to engage in a variety of ways.

We can’t wait to meet you!
