At the end of term YAC’s Act 3 previewed their Forum theatre/interactive workshop piece made in partnership with the drugs education charity The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation and based on the StopWatch Theatre production of Mark Wheeller‘s play I Love You Mum, I Promise I Won’t Die.
Act 3 have learned workshop leading skills and will be working with five groups of thirty pupils over the next two weeks. The 45 minute workshop is totally led by the group themselves (with support from Catch-22 drug and alcohol project) and gives young people the chance to talk openly and honestly with each other about drug and alcohol use.
Thanks to all who came along to see the preview including members of Act 2 who took part as workshop participants. The performance and workshop is a moving, sensitive and powerful portrayal of a young person collapsing in a night club after taking drugs, explores what happens next and what could have been done to prevent it. YAC Act 3 are excited to be taking their workshop out into Merton schools over the next two weeks. They will be at: Ursuline High School, St Marks Academy, Ricards Lodge High School, Rutlish School and Raynes Park High School.
WCTT Young Actors Company are very grateful to have had the opportunity to work on this project with The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation and for funding from London Borough of Merton and Wimbledon Foundation
