On July 29 2020, the Young Actors Company will debut three original films – and we’d love to share them with you.
In the wake of COVID-19 and the lockdown, the Young Actors Company had to meet a huge challenge – and, according to Andy Alty, the company’s creative producer, it has made the actors and directors “rip up the rule book about what we do and how we do it.”
Pre-COVID, work was rehearsed and performed in traditional theatres. Our young actors were together in the same place every week, sharing their creative ideas and then performing on a theatre stage.
Andy describes moving everything online as “daunting”, but the actors rose to the challenge. “It was a steep learning curve,” Andy says, “but we have also made some exciting discoveries and added new skills we can take forward into next year.
Although there were challenges in making an online youth theatre work, Andy says that the need for the Young Actors Company to continue was never in doubt. “Suddenly, all our members were locked down at home,” he says. “We simply had to find a way to keep in touch with them and give them the creative outlet they all craved.
“We’ve come a long way in 12 short weeks. Members quickly embraced the online rehearsals and leapt at the chance to perform on camera. There was no shortage of ideas – they had a lot they needed to say!”
Andy and the team are now delighted to announce three world premieres that will be shared live online on Wednesday July 29 at 7pm.
The films will be introduced by members and their directors and, according to Andy, are “unique, entertaining and thought-provoking”.
ACT ONE presents THE FAIRGROUND
A group of young teens find themselves trapped in an abandoned fairground. Is there a way to escape? And will the world outside ever be the same?
ACT TWO presents THE LOCKDOWN CABARET SHOW
A performance all the family will enjoy with comic turns, satirical sketches, songs and dances – all designed to raise smiles and lift spirits. This film has been made especially for local care homes and elders groups.
ACT THREE presents ISOLATION
An online detention. A leader with a guilty secret. An outsider who’s looking for revenge…
The show will last for 75 minutes. Tickets are £3.83 and ALL proceeds will go towards next year’s exciting Young Actors Company programme, which will include community projects.
We can’t wait to share these original films with you.
